In apparent bid to encourage boost growth and development of economic growth and development, the management of Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS) has assured Nigerians that the agency is mandated to grow businesses not to destroy them.



In FIRS, "we tax the fruits alone not the seeds because if we tax the seeds, such investment will die off, since our aim is to give room to more investment, we only tax your profit not your investment capital. Hence, we set up peoplecentric and customercentric units."



Moreover, since taxation is a hard job to do and since it also requires accountability, the organisation has innovatively carved technology data-driven arms whereby people outside the physical business outfits, those involved in online trading are able to join in the payment with ease.



Even as it announced that the repositioning drive has yielded results with FIRS surpassing target with task with N12.36 trillion.




Reiterating its readiness to encourage more investors and sustaining existing industries, FIRS explained that since creating and sustaining industrialisation goal is pivotal tool to towards realisation of reliable of taxation, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has instructed the management team being led by the  Chairman, Zacch Adedeji against unfriendly revenue collection.



Since the coming on board of current, Zacch Adedeji as chairman of  FIRS, the organisation has come out with more enjoyable stronger and easy way of taxation whereby payers can pay their taxes without any hitch at the comfort of their place.



The Special Adviser to the Chairman FIRS on Tax Policy, Mr. Femi Olarinde,  made this known, while addressing members of Commerce and Industry Correspondents Association of Nigeria (CICAN), in Ikeja GRA, Lagos Nigeria on Thursday 11 July 2024.


 

According to Olarinde FIRS has revolutionised its operations under the strategic tripod of –people-friendly and digitalisation process which has revolutionised the way of taxation in the country.



"We are here today because we have seen CICAN as good partner in progress of taxation, being our partner in progress we ensure this meeting took place despite the much delay in flight from Abuja". Since CICAN led by Mr Charles Okonji has identified with us in sensitization of the general public of benefits of thereby making them to see taxation as the livewire for growth and development of economic the economy, we will seek more of their cooperation to encourage more individuals and corporate bodies to see tax as way of growing the economy.



"By their reportage CICAN members have been at the forefront in encouraging Nigerians to embrace taxation, which is tool of revenue boosting, as such they have increased the level of acceptance by the general public."


 


Moreover he said, “FIRS has integrated nine new modules on our tax administration system called TaxProMax, which has automated over 80 per cent of manual processes."



Furthermore, he said, "We have also revolutionalised tax office operation into a streamlined ‘One stop shop’ catering to diverse taxpayers by their categories: Large taxpayer, Medium taxpayer and Small taxpayer.



“This has improved customer satisfaction and has significantly reduced customer complaints between the 4th quarter of 2023 and the 1st quarter of 2024.



“Since September last year when the new Chairman came on board, FIRS has brought additional over 170,000 new tax payers into the tax net.”



Also in the team were Mr Dare Adekanmbi (Special Adviser on Media to the FIRS chairman), Mr. Sikiru Akinola (Technical Assistant, Media) and Mrs. Dapo Awolowo (Head, Office of the Special Adviser on Media to the Chairman.
