A constable with the Benue Police Command attached to the Tse Agbaragba Divisional Police Station at Konshisha Local Government Area Belasa Iyangedue has been dismissed for allegedly raping a 16-year-old who was in detention.
The rape victim was in detention on Aug. 15 for alleged defamation at the Tse Agbaragba Divisional Police Station.
Giving an update on the incident on Tuesday, Commissioner of Police in Benue, Mr Bartholomew Onyeka said Iyangedue has been taken through the police disciplinary process and dismissed as his offence was against the ethics of the profession.
He added that the dismissed constable will also be prosecuted for rape.
“He was not only dismissed but he is facing prosecution. When civilians commit such an offence they are prosecuted. He is facing dismissal and prosecution,’’ Onyeka said.
